The character played by Burt Lancaster and Frank Whaley, Archibald "Moonlight" Graham, is based on an actual baseball player with the same name. His character is largely true to life. Then-teenagers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were extras in the Fenway Park scene. It went on to be a commercial and critical success being nominated for three Academy Awards, including for Best Original Score, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.
