Daybill Poster. Enter the Dragon is a 1973 martial arts film produced by and starring Bruce Lee. The film, which co-stars John Saxon and Jim Kelly, was directed by Robert Clouse. John Saxon is a black belt in Judo and Shotokan Karate, who studied under grandmaster Hidetaka Nishiyama for three years. Jim Kelly was a world champion in Karate. It would be Bruce Lee's final completed film appearance before his death on 20 July 1973 at age 32. Jackie Chan appears as a guard during the underground lair battle scene and gets his neck snapped by Lee. He also performed several stunts for the film. The film was shot on location in Hong Kong and all scenes were filmed without sound: dialogue and sound effects were added or dubbed in during post-production. A joint American and Hong Kong production, it premiered in Los Angeles on 19 August 1973, one month after Lee's death. The film was well received by critics and is widely regarded as one of the best films of 1973. It went on to gross US$90 million worldwide, equivalent to US$518 million adjusted for inflation. Enter the Dragon is widely regarded as one of the greatest martial arts films of all time. It is among the first films to combine martial arts action with the emerging Blaxploitation genre and its success led to a series of similar productions combining both genres.
