All About e (2015) Film Review

You know that feeling when someone invites you to see a film and you really don't have any expectations about it? It could be a flop or it could be a success. Louise Wadley's feature film directorial debut with 'All About E' was one of those moments and i can happily say the experience was a great success. The storyline centres around a gay female DJ working in a Sydney nightclub who also lives with a male gay friend. They happen to stumble upon some stolen cash which leads to a chase across the Australian bush that threatens both of their lives.

Along the way our key character 'E' played by Mandahla Rose whose credits include Wolf Creek 2 and Oranges and Sunshine finds herself questioning her past relationships with lovers and family. Her traveling companion is 'Matt' played by Brett Rogers in his first feature film role. Rogers delivers some exceptional comic lines that gives the film a broad appeal. Dedicated to his character, he put on 12 kilos and dyed his hair red for the role. The other key lead in the film is 'Trish' who is 'E''s love interest played by Julia Billington whose key other credit includes Catching Milat. As the three leads are largely unknown, this strategic move by Wadley has paid dividends as it adds to the fresh appeal of the movie. Nothing like seeing some new acting talent on the big screen - trust me these are names to watch.

The film's storyline is adaptable to any sexual preference but the fact that its focus is on the gay community is what makes this film unique and refreshing. Yes some may say it may limit it's distribution but i think most will say it is a film for the 21st century and will do the opposite.

The standout for this film reviewer was the incredible cinematography by Justine Kerrigan. You are taken on an incredible journey of the true Australian bush - how it is not far from the cities. This reviewer having stayed in these parts can verify the authenticity of how well this was done. The way Wadley captured her cast with the various natural lighting was to be admired. If you want to see a ground breaking and risk taking film for the 21st century then i would recommend you see 'All About E'. It has limited screenings and information can be found here http://www.girlsown.com/screenings/
