A first-class cast has been assembled for this prestigious adaptation by Deborah Moggach of Nancy Mitford's irresistible, glittering social tale of the upper classes in pre-war London. Love In A Cold Climate is both a delicious romance and a lavish satire of English aristocracy in the 1930s, full of glamour, decadence and gossip. Set in the original Mitford family home of Batsford Park in the Cotswolds, and on location in Bordeaux in France, the story follows the fortunes of three girls from old aristocratic families whose young lives are dedicated to the pursuit of love.In their determination to find passion and romance, they break free of convention and, as war descends on Europe, their quest brings them disappointment, heartache, contentment and joy. Impulsive, romantic Linda (Elizabeth Dermot Walsh) gives her heart in haste and repents at leisure. Beautiful ice maiden Polly (Megan Dodds) contracts a marriage that shocks society and breaks her mother's heart. Abandoned by her reckless mother, Fanny (Rosamund Pike) finds love with a kind and decent man, and follows the progress of her friends from her safe, domestic haven. Based loosely on the authors own childhood and on her infamous sisters, Love In A Cold Climate is laced with exquisite characters such as The Bolter (Frances Barber), Fanny's mother, so named because she can't stay with one man for any length of time; the bombastic Uncle Matthew (Alan Bates), whose temper belies a heart of gold; and Polly's glamorous, manipulative cousin Cedric, (Daniel Evans) whose arrival in the middle of an enormous family crisis drags her mother, Lady Montdore (Sheila Gish), back from the depths of despair.
